I recently purchased this item for my 4- and 7-year-old kids. It was an instant favorite.
I haven’t seen another engineering toy quite like this. My kids love testing how high they can build and coming up with their own challenges. Both my pre-K and upper elementary kids really enjoy playing with it.
This is a great kit to use for family STEM nights. It's easy to use for a wide range of ages and ability levels. The pieces are durable, and large enough that they aren't easily lost. We have used this at STEM nights where our high school students run activities for younger children and their families. Even the high school students really enjoyed investigating with this kit! You do need batteries and might want to have extras on hand, just in case.
As a 4th grade teacher, I highly recommend the Survive the Quake Engineering Kit for bringing STEM to life in a fun, hands-on way. Students build structures and test them on an earthquake simulator, learning about engineering, design, and natural disasters through a process of trial and error. The activity booklet adds strong science connections and supports the engineering design process. It encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance skills that we emphasize in the classroom. The kit is durable, engaging, and perfect for small group work or STEM stations. Overall, it's an excellent tool for making science both meaningful and exciting for students.

My son loves playing with this. He has had this for about 2 years. just cleaned out his room, and I asked him if he wanted to keep it, and he did. He still has fun designing buildings and testing them with this. Equally fun for him is putting up shoddy buildings and maniacally making the earthquake happen. :-D

Grandkids like it.
Lakeshore Learning is just the best. Quality that stands up to the rough play of a family of little boys. Worth the money.
These kids are wonderful for more than just the intended use. I’m able to integrate them into even more hands-on STEM labs and activities! They are actually great for all ages!
Was great as a gift for 5 year old
This is a fun product, but it is loud when it gets to the point of turning on the earthquake. I played with a 9 year old who had an understanding of how earthquakes work. Because of this, he was able to figure out very quickly how to build a building that would last so we didn't play for a very long time. I do think it is the type of game that could be used as a learning tool and that he will want to play again when he visits.

I bought this for our STEM center in our Extended Care room; the kids love it! The only problem is that it can sometimes be loud on level 5. However, the noise is bearable.

Perfect for our extended care program, we recently added a stem center for the kids and they love it.
