These cards are very durable and include a variety of high-interest topics!

My students love learning about new things from these cards each day. They have great comprehension questions attached with the passages.

I use these as an addition to the online homework packets sent by teacher for first grade granddaughter. These are short enough to complete in one sitting and provides the one to one adult teaching not provided by packets. Whenever possible a writing extension can easily be added for a reading-writing connection depending on card subject. I do not use the dry eraser pen because Id to save for next child, but I love they are printed on a thick plastic card for durability. We use a notebook and save our work. Enjoy!

I am so happy I bought these! Student Approved: This set is full of HIGH interest topics that my students WANT to read! Funny, when I ask them to choose a card, often they choose 2 or 3 because they can't decide and want to read multiple cards- what a problem to have, right? Besides being high interest topics, I love that they are educational (non-fiction) and since there are a vast variety of topics it's easy to find one that ties into our other current studies (science or history). It is also nice they are leveled (3 levels), and with 90 cards, my students can read 2-3 per week and still not run out of new cards. Content: I do wish the reading portion was a little longer and a little more in depth on each topic, HOWEVER if it were I'm sure it would make the comprehension questions a bit too difficult for this age group. I noticed that my students seem to really retain the information and are ready to answer the comprehension questions without trouble, but there is an added part instructing them to "underline or circle the sentence in the text that supports their answer." Re-reading text for information is a new task and skill for my students, so since the text portion is short, it helps keep that task from being too overwhelming (so the shorter text is probably a good thing). I switch between using the dry erase feature on on the cards (fun activity for early finishers), but I often copy the cards (making them into worksheets) so all the students can have the same card and they can take home their completed physical work. I highly recommend this set!
