It does have a specific time window for use--big enough to sit up fairly well (i.e., not 'floppy'), but still topple backwards and sideways easily. I like the flat surface top for toys, and that it can be wiped down easily. The vinyl seems at be of good quality. It's a bit expensive but the quality and utility made it worth it. I'd purchase again.

These are not what I was expecting for infants, they will work for older babies who can sit on their own! If your baby isn’t independently sitting they may fall forward in this seat!

We had a number of traditional sit up seats that were too tight on my baby's legs and didn't offer him a lot of opportunities to turn and explore. Our school had this seat and I sought it out online - it's been fantastic! It gives our boy more freedom to explore while challenging his trunk muscles more. It's noticeably improved his ability to sit up on his own, even though he still needs support. Even after he's sitting independently, it will be a nice climbing and exploring pillow/toy - our 4 year old even plays with it like this already. Hard to find, glad we did!
