Worth the cost!

I have used these in intervention groups of five or six students and one-on-one tutoring. Currently, I am using with a 7th grade student to help close learning gaps from previous grades. In intervention, I have used these up to 6th grade, and I believe these are useful up to 8th grade, depending on each individual student's or group's needs. (Intervention students are those that are the 25 percentile and below on standardized testing and that have tested with a Reading Specialist or intervention teacher as being two or more grade levels behind.) *When using with older students, sometimes the questions will be too easy for them. It is necessary to preview questions beforehand if you think this will be a problem with your students.* These are great for on-grade level, advanced learners in lower grades, and for intervention. I love these for intervention. Many of the games can be played with two people, which makes it easy for students to be partners in school or for a tutor and a student to work together, siblings at home, or a parent and a student. These would be wonderful for homeschool as well. Yes, an answer key is included! I only wish Lakeshore would bring back the game that was replaced in this set - Mystery Mansion. It was very fun for students and was a game about making inferences. I loved this game and so did my students!

Although this is grade level 4th-5th, the recommended is 4th-6th grade. There can be a lot of reading practice (especially if you have just 2 players) and some of the vocabulary words are challenging. The games are a fun way to practice cause and effect, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

Fun Review Strategies

My 6th graders and English learners really like being able to play games in class and don't think about how they are practicing ELA strategies while they are playing.

High quality

I was a little worried about spending this much money on games but I was relieved and surprised at how great they are. The materials are high-quality and nicely made. The reading passages are so well-done and perfectly on grade level -just challenging enough. Some are stories, some are non-fiction which are really interesting. The girl I tutor loves the games. Very colorful and again, so well-made. I could not be happier.

Great fun!

My 5th-6th graders are loving these games! I introduced them one at a time into our Language Arts centers. The games are very well-made, are very colorful, have easy-to-follow directions, and the kids are truly enjoying the games.

Spiral Review!

My colleague and I both used these in a prior school system. We didn't have them in our current school, and searched around until we found them. We were totally excited when we ended up with some money to buy instructional materials. These are absolutely wonderful for spiral review, and worth every penny! What kid doesn't like to play a game, and board games build social skills, too!

Awesome Games!

I work as a literacy interventionist for Title 1 students. This product is great when working with my small group of students and the activities are engaging. Games that are aligned with the common core standards are fabulous! Sometimes I make additional copies of some of the graphic organizers or game pieces in case I have more than 3 students. Everything is laminated and ready to go!
