I purchased this for my child when she expressed interest in learning how to play chess. She loves it!

I’m a retired educator of 40 years experience and as a retiree, I am enjoying going back to address holes in my education. One of those deep holes was never learning chess. The other day I was babysitting for some friends, and their son in the first grade asked me if we could play chess. I I said I would be glad to, but that he would have to teach me. He pulled out the learner’s set from you with the moves marked on the back of the pieces, and we had a wonderful game. I was so inspired, I went back home and ordered two sets, one for me and one for my granddaughter. It is direct experiential learning of the best kind, and I keep the set out on our coffee table to practice moves and continue to learn, as well as playing games with my own family members. This is very good to learn how to play the game of chess. It allows children the guidance needed to understand the game.

What a great chess set! The quality of this set is awesome! Very, very well made, and my six year old great-nephew loves it, and couldn't wait to share his skills with us via video. My daughter learns chess and wanted to buy this for her friend. It's a fabulous set for beginners - kids and adults, as each piece has a little description of how it can move (to remind you of the rules). This makes it easy to approach and less intimidating.

My 8 year old son and I first saw this on display at the store, and we immediately began playing it. He had already known how to play from learning at summer camp a few years ago, and I only had a basic knowledge of it. The fact that the pieces all have their available moves on them made it that much more engaging, thought provoking, and fun, and when we finished playing an entire game (yes, and entire game) in the store, we knew that we had to buy one to take home.

My 7-year-old son received this and taught himself how to play chess so quickly. He was easily able to track the different types of moves that each piece can do, which helped him learn the game overall.

This chess set is great and makes learning easy and fun!
