Definitely only holds very few books. We put about 20 - 25 big books on it as there was plenty of space to do so, and the bar warped and they all sank to the middle. We have sense put clothes pins to help distribute the weight a little better, and we ordered more. Wish the middle pole held a little more weight, but overall still a good product.
