Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®
Carson, CA

On October 6, 2011, children across the country attempted to break a world record—by sitting down together to read! Read for the Record® is an annual event organized by Jumpstart, an early education organization that helps children build the language and literacy skills they need to succeed in school. Last year, Jumpstart led over 2 million children in reading the same book on the same day. This year, they wanted to beat that record—and Lakeshore wanted to help!

We invited children across the country to join us in our stores to read Anne Dewdney’s Llama Llama Red Pajama, the delightful children’s book selected by Jumpstart for this year’s reading event. Every hour on the hour, children sat down to read with us—and by the end of the day, over 600 children had joined in on the fun. In the process, we raised money for Jumpstart’s educational programs by donating a portion of sales made in our stores that day. A big thank-you to everyone who had the opportunity to participate in this event with us!

So, did we break the world reading record? Stop by Jumpstart’s website to see if the votes have all been counted! Visit
