Students spread good luck with these shimmering shamrock cards!

This activity is appropriate for:
pre-k - 2nd grade / 4 - 7 years

You will need:

Prepare the pop-up cards by completing the following steps for each child:

  1. Fold two sheets of construction paper in half widthwise. One sheet will be the inside of the card and the other sheet will be the cover.
  2. On the inside piece, cut two short slits near the middle of the fold. Fold the small flap you have made backward along the fold so that it forms a small “step” when the card is opened. (Download directions.)
  3. Glue the inside piece to the cover, being careful not to glue the flap down.

  1. Print the shamrock template and give several shamrocks to each student.
  2. Prompt students to color the shamrocks and cut them out.
  3. Invite students to decorate their shamrocks with green glitter or glitter paint. Allow the shamrocks to dry.
  4. While the shamrocks are drying, have students write a Saint Patrick’s Day message on the card, such as “Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!” or “I’m lucky to have you for a friend!” or “Have a Lucky Day!”
  5. Have students glue one shamrock onto the pop-up flap inside the card. Encourage them to glue the other shamrocks anywhere they like. Then have them sign their name at the bottom of the card.
