Bring the magic of Dr. Seuss into your classroom with this colorful fishbowl!

This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 2nd grade / 3 - 7 years

You will need:

Before you begin:

  1. Print out the Fish template on plain white paper, making enough copies so that each student has two fish. Then print out a fishbowl template on light-blue construction paper, and give one fishbowl to each student.

  1. Give each student a pair of scissors and have them cut out the fishbowl and two fish.
  2. Instruct students to glue the fish onto their blue fishbowl.
  3. Next, give students some red and blue tissue paper. Note: You can give students torn pieces of tissue paper, or have them tear or cut their own pieces.
  4. Have students glue overlapping pieces of red tissue paper onto one fish and overlapping pieces of blue tissue paper onto the other fish to make one red fish and one blue fish.
  5. Encourage students to glue dried beans to the bottom of their fishbowls to create “rocks” or “pebbles.”
  6. Finally, display the completed fishbowls on a Dr. Seuss-themed bulletin board for a Read Across America celebration!

Learning Extension

  1. Read aloud One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.
