This cute craft is also a clever get-to-know-you activity!

This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 3rd grade / 3 - 8 years

You will need:

Preparation:

Print the owl templates. Reproduce the body and wings onto brown or orange construction paper, the feet and beaks onto orange construction paper, and the eyes onto white construction paper.

Directions

  1. Give each student a set of owl template pieces, and instruct students to cut them out. (For younger students, you can cut out the pieces in advance.)
  2. Have students glue on the feet, beak and eyes.
  3. Help students use brass fasteners to attach the top of the wings to the owl’s shoulders.
  4. Invite students to write their names on the owl’s body. If desired, have each student glue a photo onto the owl’s body.
  5. Instruct students to write one fact about themselves on each wing. The facts should give clues about the student’s identity. For example, “I am the tallest boy in class.” Encourage students to give one physical trait and one personality trait or personal preference. (Have younger students dictate a fact for you to write.)
  6. Display the completed owls on a bulletin board titled “Whooo Am I?”
  7. Lead the class in a get-to-know-you game! Read the clues aloud and invite students to guess which classmate made each owl.
