The National Head Start Association:
Keeping the Window of Opportunity Open for At-Risk Children
Access to early childhood education provides a critical window of opportunity for young children in need—and the National Head Start Association is fighting to keep that window open!
As part of their national effort to emphasize the critical need for investing in early childhood education, the NHSA created an original, 2-minute animated video, “One Window of Opportunity.” Produced by creative agency SS&K and narrated by Maria Shriver, the video illustrates the crucial role that Head Start plays in nurturing America’s youngest minds and bodies—as seen through the wonder and magic of a young child’s eyes.
For more than 45 years, Head Start has been opening the window of opportunity for America’s most vulnerable children and families through comprehensive education, health, nutrition, parent involvement and family services. But with 46 million people living below the poverty line, including 1 in 4 children under the age of 6, the need for Head Start programs is greater than ever—and growing. Due to current levels of funding, Head Start is only able to provide services for a small fraction of children in need—less than 50 percent of all eligible preschool-age children and only 5 to 6 percent of all eligible infants and toddlers.
Almost one million young children look to Head Start for the support they need to get on the path to lifelong success, and they need help being heard. To add your voice to the fight to ensure that the window of opportunity remains open to every child, visit NHSA.org.
