A Journey to Learning
Victoria Snow
Brookings, OR
Each year my fourth-grade class studies the Oregon Trail. We “journey” from Independence, Missouri, all the way to Oregon! Along the way my students keep journals, make their own wagons, figure out what supplies they need and encounter many hardships on the trail. At the end of our Oregon Trail unit we tie everything together with our Oregon Trail Play. The kids dress up like pioneers, and they research a person or place along the trail. They write a report, make a poster and present the play to the class. This is just one of the fun and educational ways to end a unit of study!
