Winter Hat Craft

These easy-to-make winter hats are sure to warm the hearts of your students!
This activity is appropriate for:
pre-k - 2nd grade / 4 - 7 years
You will need:
Directions
- Cut out a winter hat template and a strip of felt (about 1" x 6") for each student. Distribute the craft materials.
- Have students trace the template onto a foam sheet and cut it out.
- Invite students to glue a felt strip across the bottom of their foam hat.
- Have students glue cotton balls to the top part of the hat to make a pom-pom.
- Encourage students to decorate their hats with gemstones, jewels or glitter shapes.
- Display these adorable winter hats on a bulletin board titled “Hats Off to Winter!”

Learning Extension Activities
- Teach students this Winter Clothes Chant. Invite children to point to corresponding parts of their bodies as they recite the chant together.
- Give each student a copy of the chant. Have them cut it out and glue it to the back of their foam hat.
- Help students measure and cut out a strip of felt (about 1" wide) to fit around their head. Attach these strips to the hats so students can wear them!
- Invite students to wear their winter hats home and practice the chant with their parents or caregivers.
