Weather Wind Sock
|
Children experience wind power firsthand with this colorful wind sock!
This fun and engaging craft is appropriate for:
pre-k - 3rd grade / 4 - 8 years
You will need:
- Paper lunch bags (preferably ones with handles)
- Best-Buy Washable Broad-Tip Markers, Lakeshore Crayon Packs, Washable Watercolor Set and All-Purpose Paintbrush Assortment - Set of 30
- Crepe paper for streamers
- Safety Scissors
- Staple-Free Stapler
- String or yarn (optional)
Directions
- Help children cut the bottom out of their lunch bags.
- Encourage the children to color the bag with markers or crayons. If children use watercolors, allow time for the bag to dry.
- As the children are coloring, staple the streamers to one end of each bag.
- If the bag does not have handles, staple string or yarn to the other end of the bag to create handles.
- Go outside to test the wind socks. Point out that the streamers indicate the wind direction and the wind speed. Discuss how the streamers will look on a very windy day and how they will look on a calm day.
