Turkey Table Toppers

These cute little gobblers turn any meal into a festive Thanksgiving feast!
This activity is appropriate for:
pre-k - 3rd grade / 4 - 8 years
You will need:
- Feather templates
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12" (variety of colors)
- Disposable foam coffee cups
- Superbright Liquid Tempera - 1 Pint (brown)
- Classroom Paintbrushes - Set of 24
- Painting Bowls - 10-Color Set
- Safety Scissors
- Jumbo pom-poms
- Wiggly Eyes
- Foam Sheets (orange)
- Tacky Glue
- Recycled newspaper
Before you begin:
- Reproduce the feather templates onto construction paper in a variety of colors.
- Cover the painting work space with recycled newspaper.
- Pour brown paint into several painting bowls. Set the bowls on the painting work space, along with the paintbrushes and foam cups.
Directions
- Invite a few students at a time to the painting work space. Have them turn a cup upside down and paint the outside of the cup brown. Set the cups aside and allow them to dry.
- Meanwhile, have students cut out feathers in various colors. Help students cut out a triangular beak and feet from the orange foam sheets.
- Help students glue two wiggly eyes and the beak onto a large pom-pom to make the turkey’s head.
- When the cups are dry, have students glue the head, feathers, and feet to the cup.
- Encourage students to take their completed turkey home and use it as a decorative centerpiece for their Thanksgiving table!
