Holiday Snack Sticks
|
This deliciously edible craft lets kids celebrate the colors of any holiday!
This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 3rd grade / 3 - 8 years
You will need:
- Pretzel rods (about 8 inches in length)
- Sprinkles in a variety of holiday colors (red/green for Christmas, blue/white for Hanukkah, red/green/brown for Kwanzaa)
- Canned white frosting
- Wax paper
- Plastic knives
Directions
- Provide students with a sheet of wax paper and allow them to choose the colors of sprinkles that they would like to use for their holiday sticks (e.g., red/green for Christmas, blue/white for Hanukkah, or red/green/brown for Kwanzaa).
- Have them spoon sprinkles onto the paper, arranged into long rows about 1½ inches wide. (Note: Younger children may need help to make sure that their colors don’t mix together as they arrange them on the sheet.)
- Have students use a plastic knife to coat the top half of their pretzel rods in white frosting.
- Before the frosting hardens, instruct students to carefully roll the coated rod through the strips of colored sprinkles until the icing is coated with two or three colors that represent the holiday of their choice.
- Place in a refrigerator to chill for an hour or so—or eat right away!
