You will need:
- Shamrock template

- Hole punch
- String or yarn
Before you begin:

Directions
- Give students a strip of construction paper in each color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.
- Show students how to make a paper chain: First, glue the ends of the red strip together to form a loop. Then, put the orange strip through the red loop and glue the ends of the orange strip together. Continue in this way to form a paper chain with all six strips.
- Have each student cut out a green shamrock. Prompt students to think about something they are grateful for and complete the sentence on the shamrock. (Have younger students dictate their responses for you to write.)
- Help students punch a hole in the top of the shamrock. Loop a piece of yarn or string through the hole and through the last link in the paper chain. Tie the ends of the yarn to connect the shamrock to the paper chain.
- Hang the finished products from the classroom ceiling for a colorful Saint Patrick’s Day display. Then have students take home their projects to use as door decorations!
