Share the bright colors of spring with this tasty rainbow treat!
This activity is appropriate for:
kindergarten - 2nd grade / 5 - 7 years
You will need:
- Baby food jars with lids (one per student)
- Small candies in rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
- Yellow pom-poms
- Rainbow poem reproducible
- Tacky Glue
- Curling ribbon
- Hole punch
- Scissors
- Lakeshore Standard Crayon Packs
Before you begin:
- A week or two before starting this project, ask parents to start collecting baby food jars. Wash the jars with soap and water, and allow them to dry.
- Print and copy the rainbow poem reproducible. Cut apart the poems (one per student) and punch a hole in each one.

Directions
- Give each student a baby food jar and a handful of candies. Encourage students to fill the jar by layering the candies according to color.
- Have students secure the lid tightly to the top of the jar.
- Invite students to glue 4–5 yellow glitter pom-poms to the top of the jar. (Explain that the pom-poms are the “gold”!)
- Give each student a copy of the poem, a piece of curling ribbon and crayons. Invite them to color in their poems.
- Help each student use the curling ribbon to tie the poem to the jar, completing their pot of gold!
