Pop-Up Thank-You Card
|
Say “thank you” to someone special at your school—with a clever 3-D card that they’re sure to love!
This activity is appropriate for:
1st - 4th grade / 6 - 9 years
You will need:
Directions
- Tell students that they will be making thank you cards for special people at your school. On the board, write down all the people you’d like to thank (for example, your school secretary, librarian, cafeteria worker, principal, music teacher, room mom, etc.). Ask each student to choose one person to make a card for.
- Fold two rectangular pieces of construction paper in half. One of these will be the inside of the card, and one will be the outside.
- On the inside piece, cut two short slits near the middle of the fold.
- Fold the two outside flaps you have made backwards along the fold so that they form small “steps” when the card is opened. Download directions.
- Refold the card. Now, cut two small slits through the folded flaps on each side. When you open the card, this should form two additional “steps” on each side (see photo).
- Now, draw, color and cut out the decorations that will “pop up” when the card is opened. You might choose flowers or another appropriate symbol. For example, you might make books if the card is for the librarian, fruit if it’s for a cafeteria worker, etc.
- Glue your decorations to the flaps. Make sure nothing sticks out of the card when it’s closed!
- Get the outside section. Draw a picture and “thank you” message on the front of your card.
- Glue the outside of the card to the inside. Make sure you don’t accidentally glue the flaps down!
- Let your card dry and it’s ready!
