Directions
- Explain to students that they are going to make a diagram of a sunflower.
- Give each student a strip of brown paper and a sheet of blue paper. Have students glue the strip of brown paper along the bottom edge of the blue paper.
- Provide each student with a flower and a stem. Instruct students to cut them out and glue them to the blue paper.
- Have students glue sunflower seeds to the center of the flower. Then have each student glue a single sunflower seed just beneath the stem.
- Have students use pipe stems to form the roots of the plant. Encourage students to bend and twist the pipe stems before gluing them to the “dirt” below the single seed.
- Give each student a set of labels. Instruct students to cut out the labels and glue them next to the corresponding parts of the plant.
- Post the completed diagrams on a bulletin board titled “Springtime Sunflowers!”
