Milk Jug Piggy Bank
|
Children recycle a milk jug into a fully painted piggy bank!
This fun and engaging craft is appropriate for:
1st - 3rd grade / 6 - 8 years
You will need:
- 1 gallon milk jug, washed
- Paper towel roll
- 1 sheet tagboard with pig ear patterns
- Pink paint
- Sponge or All-Purpose Paintbrush Assortment - Set of 30
- Super-Safe Craft Tape Center - 1"
- Pink pipe stem
- Masking tape
- Help-Yourself Glue Tubes
- Sandpaper
- Wiggly Eyes (2 for each jug)
- Safety Scissors
Directions
- Lightly sand the jug before painting to allow the paint to adhere to the surface better.
- Use template to trace two ears onto a sheet of tagboard. Cut out the ears.
- Cut the paper towel tube in half. Then, cut one of the pieces in half again at a 45-degree angle so that you have two small pieces.
- With masking tape, attach the two paper towel tube “feet” to the front of the jug. Next, tape both ears to the jug.
- Paint the pig (including the ears and legs) with a brush or sponge.
- Attach the pipe stem onto the jug for the “tail.”
- Glue wiggly eyes onto the front top of the jug. If you wish, use a marker to draw the rest of the face onto the pig.
- Cut out a slot at the top rear of the jug to create the coin slot.
- Insert coins in the slot. To remove the coins, just unscrew the pig’s “nose!”
