Recycle cereal or detergent boxes into useful magazine holders!

This activity is appropriate for:
1st - 3rd grade / 6 - 8 years

You will need:

Safety Scissors
All-Purpose Paintbrush Assortment - Set of 30
Help-Yourself Glue Tubes
Washable Broad-Tip Markers - Student Pack
Empty cereal box or detergent box (larger than a magazine)
Ruler
Pen or pencil
Acrylic paint
Old magazines, gift wrap, scratch paper, felt stickers (optional)

Directions

On the side of the box, mark a line four inches from the bottom.
With a ruler, draw a diagonal line from the mark to the top opposite corner of the front of the box. Repeat on the back of the box.
Draw a line connecting the two diagonal lines across the other side of the box.
Cut off the top portion of the box along the lines you drew.
Paint the entire outside of the box. You may need two coats to cover it completely. Let dry.
Decorate your box. You can use markers to draw pictures; glue on magazine pictures, scratch paper shapes, gift wrap remnants or felt shapes; or attach stickers.
Use your box to store all your favorite magazines!
