Leaf Print Place Mats
|
These festive place mats add a touch of autumn to your classroom Thanksgiving feast!
This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 2nd grade / 3 - 7 years
You will need:
- A collection of leaves (in a variety of shapes and sizes)
- Recycled newspaper
- Lakeshore Fully Washable Liquid Tempera - Pints (in fall colors such as brown, red, orange, and yellow)
- Painting Bowls - 10-Color Set
- Heavy-Duty Chubby Brushes - 10-Color Set
- Construction Paper - 12" x 18"
- Clear Adhesive Rolls
Directions
- Before beginning this craft project, go outside and gather a collection of fallen leaves in a variety of shapes and sizes. (If weather permits, you may even want to take students outside and have them choose their own leaves!)
- Cover a table or workspace with recycled newspaper to protect the surface. Provide one sheet of white construction paper for each student to use as his place mat.
- Squeeze generous amounts of each color of paint into separate bowls or cups.
- Have students carefully dip their paintbrushes into the desired color and paint one side of a leaf. (Young students may need some assistance with this step so as not to tear the leaves.)
- Instruct students to press the leaf paint-side down onto the white paper to make a leaf print.
- Encourage students to repeat Steps 4 and 5 using different leaves and paint colors until they have created a desired pattern on their leaf place mats.
- Allow the place mats to dry. Then, if desired, cover each place mat with a sheet of clear adhesive paper.
- Encourage students to use the place mats as you host a Thanksgiving feast in your classroom!
