“Homework Time” Door Sign
|
This easy-to-make door sign will give students a sense of pride as they study at home!
This activity is appropriate for:
1st - 3rd grade / 6 - 8 years
You will need:
- Pencil template
- Jumbo Colored Craft Sticks
- Superbright Tagboard - 9" x 12"
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12" (black and pink)
- Tacky Glue
- Washable Broad-Tip Markers - Class Pack
- Ribbon or string
Directions
- Print and cut out the pencil template. Trace the shape onto sheets of yellow tagboard. Cut out one pencil for each student.
- Invite students to select four craft sticks of the same color. (This will be the color of their pencil.) Instruct students to glue one craft stick to the top center of the template, leaving room at one end for the eraser and at the other end for the pencil point. Have them glue the other three craft sticks below the first one.
- Prompt each student to cut a small black triangle from construction paper and glue it to the tip of the template to make the pencil point. They can also attach an eraser shape in pink paper.
- Have students use markers to write the message “Homework Time” on the craft sticks.
- Help each student glue ribbon to the back of the sign to form a loop that can hang from a doorknob. Allow the glue to dry completely.
- Encourage students to place the signs on their doorknobs at home whenever they need quiet time to study!
