Learning Extension
Use this activity to introduce color patterns! After students have finished their trees, invite a few students to bring their projects to the front of the classroom. Have them hold up their trees and arrange the students in a pattern based on the color of their apples. Encourage students to tell you which color comes next in the pattern. Then invite additional groups of students to stand up and arrange themselves in different patterns.Have students sing this fun pattern song to the tune of “The Muffin Man.” Repeat the second verse for each pattern students have created!
- Have you seen an apple tree,
- an apple tree, an apple tree?
- Yellow, red, or even green—
- A tasty treat for us!
- Name the pattern that you see,
- The colors on the apple trees.
- Here’s the pattern that we see—
- Red, green, green, red, green, green.
