Colorful Garden Critters
|
Students welcome spring with colorful critters that will brighten any garden!
This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 1st grade / 3 - 6 years
You will need:
Directions
- Provide each student with a craft stick and art materials, and encourage students to use their imaginations to create a colorful garden critter.
- Prompt students to create a body for their critter using the pom-poms or the foam sheets. If they choose to make a critter out of foam, you can provide them with the Garden Critters Template and show them how to trace the shape onto the foam sheet.
- Invite them to add wiggly eyes and pipe stems for legs or antennae. They can also decorate their critter with glitter paint.
- Instruct students to glue their completed critters to the top of their craft sticks and allow the glue to dry.
- As you are waiting for the glue to dry, teach students this fun garden critter poem and encourage them to act it out:
- I see a little garden critter,
- He’s sitting on the ground.
- He creeps among the pretty flowers
- And slowly crawls around.
- Explain how to place the stick into firm soil, and allow students to take their colorful critters home to decorate their gardens!
