Directions
- Give each student six red paper strips and six blue paper strips. (Students can also cut the crinkly strips themselves.) Instruct students to loop the strips through one another, alternating red and blue strips and gluing the ends of each strip together to make a paper chain. (Parent volunteers can help younger students if needed.)
- Give each student a white foam sheet and a copy of the star template.
- Have students cut out the star template (using regular scissors) and trace the star onto their foam sheets. Then instruct them to cut out the foam star.
- Punch a hole in the top of the foam stars.
- If desired, invite students to decorate both sides of the foam star with the glitter painters, allowing time for each side to dry.
- Help students loop a 4" strip of string or yarn through the star and tie it through one end of their paper chain.
- Use more yarn or string to hang the red, white and blue star chains in your classroom in honor of Memorial Day!
