Reusable Earth Day Bags

Students learn how to help the planet—by decorating grocery bags they can use again and again!

This activity is appropriate for:
1st - 5th grade / 6 - 10 years

You will need:

Directions

Explain to children that they will be decorating reusable grocery bags to celebrate Earth Day. Discuss how they can help the planet by reusing their grocery bags instead of wasting paper or plastic.
Provide each student with a tote bag and markers, glitter painters and glitter shapes that they can use to decorate their bags for Earth Day. Give students ideas of Earth-related things to draw, such as a map of the Earth, rainbows, birds, trees and so on. You can even suggest writing slogans such as “Save the Planet: Recycle” or “Every Day Is Earth Day!”
Once students have finished decorating their bags, encourage them to take the bags home and use them when grocery shopping with their parents.
