“I Have a Dream” Quilt
|
This whole-class project encourages students to share their dreams with others!
This activity is appropriate for:
1st – 5th grade / 6 - 10 years
You will need:
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12"
- Washable Fine-Tip Markers - Class Pack or Best-Buy Crayons
- Hole punch
- String or yarn
Directions
- Give each student a square of paper and markers or crayons.
- Ask students to draw a picture of something they want to achieve or accomplish. (Note: Be sure to tell students it could be something big, like “I have a dream to be president,” or something smaller, like “I have a dream to own a dog.”)
- Have students write their dream beneath their picture. For younger students, you may want to have them dictate what they want you to write.
- Punch two holes along each border of the students’ squares, and tie them together to make a “quilt” to put on display.
- In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., attach the “quilt” to a bulletin board titled “I Have a Dream…”
