Back-To-School Desktop Organizer

Students can keep all their school supplies in one place—with a handy organizer they can build and decorate themselves!
This activity is appropriate for:
kindergarten - 3rd grade / 5 - 8 years
You will need:
- Shoe boxes with lids
- Best-Buy Broad-Tip Markers, Lakeshore Crayon Packs and/or Washable Tempera - 6-Color Set and Natural-Bristle Paintbrushes - 10-Color Set
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12"
- Flexible Foam Shapes and Textured Collage Shapes
- Small boxes with lids
- Empty yogurt containers
- Best-Buy Scissors
- Best-Buy School Glue
Directions
- Have students use markers, crayons and/or paint to decorate the outside of their shoe box and its lid.
- Help students glue colored paper around the yogurt container. Set aside to dry.
- Have students glue the small box and yogurt container to the shoe box lid.
- Then, have students glue the small box lid upside down to the shoe box lid (so that it forms a shallow storage tray). Set aside to dry.
- If students prefer, they can decorate their organizer with the flexible foam shapes or collage materials.
- Students can store glue in the small box, smaller items like erasers and pencil sharpeners in the small box lid, and crayons, markers or pencils in the yogurt container.
- Encourage students to store larger items inside the shoe box.
