This activity is appropriate for:
1st - 5th grade / 6 - 10 years
You will need:
- Paper towel tubes (cut into 4―" pieces)
- Craft Sticks (1011 per student)
- Felt (yellow, orange, or brown; cut into 4―" x 5 ―" squares)
- Tacky Glue
- Buttons (in a variety of styles and fall colors)
Directions
- Provide each student with a precut felt square in their desired color, a paper towel tube, tacky glue, 10–11 craft sticks, and an assortment of buttons.
- Instruct students to glue buttons side by side on one side of each craft stick. (They can make color patterns or glue the buttons in random order.)
- Have students place the craft sticks side by side on the felt squares. (The sticks should be almost touching.) Prompt students to glue the sticks onto the felt.
- After the glue has dried, have students apply glue to their paper towel tubes (or to the back of the felt) and wrap the felt around the tubes. Instruct students to hold the felt in place until the glue dries.
- Invite students to use the napkin rings as part of your classroom Thanksgiving Feast. Or encourage them to use the napkin rings at home on Thanksgiving Day!
