Directions
- Provide each student with two paper plates and a handful of dried beans or rice. Have students put the beans or rice on one plate.
- Show students how to place the second plate upside down on top of the first plate. Have students use the Tacky Glue to hold the plates together, and allow time for the glue to dry. You can also staple around the edges of both plates to secure them together.
- Have students use markers or crayons to color the front and back of their shakers as follows: a green stripe on the left, a red stripe on the right and a white stripe (no color) in the middle. (Each stripe should cover 1/3 of the plate.) Explain to students that their plates will look like the Mexican flag!
- Give each student two copies of the Mexican flag emblem. Instruct students to color, cut out and glue an emblem to the front and back of their plates, on the center of the white stripe.
- To add to the fun, encourage students to decorate their flag plates with stickers. Invite students to make noise with their shakers as part of a classroom Cinco de Mayo celebration!
