Candy Heart Pencil Toppers

Kids will love decorating their pencils with these adorable candy heart toppers!

This activity is appropriate for:
1st - 5th grade / 6 - 10 years

You will need:

Before You Begin:

Make several copies of the candy heart templates on different colors of construction paper.

Directions

Give each student 2–3 pencils, scissors and glue. Have students select a pipe stem for each pencil.
Guide students to take the pipe stems and twist them around the pencils. Tell students to make sure that about ¼ inch of the pipe stem extends beyond the eraser end of the pencil.
Encourage students to choose and cut out candy hearts with different sayings—or challenge them to create their own sweet messages! (You or a parent volunteer can precut the candy hearts for younger students.)
Instruct students to glue a paper candy heart to the end of each pipe stem. Remind them to lay the pencils flat and let the glue dry completely before lifting the pencils.
Invite students to use their pencils throughout the month—or give them as Valentine’s Day gifts!
