|
These festive candle holders will enhance any holiday celebration!
This activity is appropriate for:
pre-k - 3rd grade / 4 - 8 years
You will need:
- A variety of holiday greeting cards (recycled or new) representing Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa
- Recycled baby food jars
- Help-Yourself Glue Tubes
- Safety Scissors
- Roll-On Confetti Glue
- Rubber bands
- Curling ribbon
Directions
- Explain to students that they will be making tea light candle holders for Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa.
- Provide each student with a baby food jar. Then, invite students to look through the collection of greeting cards and select a picture to use to represent the holiday of their choice.
- Have students cut out their pictures and glue them onto the outside of their baby food jars. (Note: Younger students may need more assistance with this step.)
- Help students wrap a rubber band securely around the jar to hold the picture in place while the glue dries.
- After the picture has dried, remove the rubber band and have students apply Roll-On Confetti Glue to the portion of the outside of the baby food jar that is not covered by the picture.
- Have students tie a length of curling ribbon around the rim of the jar! Then, encourage them to take their candle holders home and ask parents to place a small tea light candle inside to use for the holiday season.
