These colorful bubble creations allow students to explore their sense of wonder—outdoors!
This activity is appropriate for:
kindergarten - 3rd grade / 5 - 8 years
You will need:
- Small bottles of bubble solution with bubble wands (6 bottles for every 3–4 students)
- Food coloring
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12" or White Tagboard - 9" x 12" - 9" x 12" (white)
- Construction Paper - 12" x 18" (blue or black)
- Lakeshore Glue Sticks
- Paint smocks/aprons or old T-shirts (one for each student)
- “My Bubble Masterpiece” labels
Preparation:
- Line up the bottles of clear bubble solution and remove their caps. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bottle, varying the colors and mixing them together to make new colors (e.g., red and blue to make purple).
- Replace the caps and shake each bottle to blend. There should be six different colors for each small group (3–4 students) to share.

Directions
- Have students put on a paint smock, apron or T-shirt. Take the class outside to a large open area so they can spread out.
- Give each student a sheet of white construction paper or tagboard.
- Divide the class into small groups and give each group six different colors of bubble solution.
- Instruct students to place their white paper or tagboard on the ground in front of them. Students in each group will take turns blowing colorful bubbles that land and pop on their papers! Encourage students to use a variety of colors when creating their masterpieces. Point out that each bubble art creation will be unique.
Tip: To reduce the chance of stains, explain to students that it is important for them to avoid wiping or blowing the color bubbles onto their clothes. - After they have filled their papers with popped bubbles in a variety of colors, have students carefully bring their work inside to dry.
- Once the papers are dry, provide students with a sheet of 12" x 18" blue or black construction paper. Have them glue their artwork onto the paper to create a picture frame.
- Finally, give each student a “My Bubble Masterpiece” label. Have students write titles for their creations on the labels and stick the labels onto the bottom of their picture frames.
