“Here I Am!” Attendance People
|
This clever craft gets students involved in the process of taking attendance—every day!
This activity is appropriate for:
pre-k - 1st grade / 4 - 6 years
You will need:
- People Shape template
- People Colors® Craft Paper
- Collage materials (such as yarn, wiggly eyes and buttons)
- Help-Yourself Glue Tubes
- Self-Adhesive Hook & Loop Squares
- Black marker
Directions
- Reproduce the People Shape template onto craft paper in a variety of colors. (To cut down on preparation time, use the People Shapes™ Project Kit.)
- Invite each student to choose a People Shape. Provide students with collage materials and glue.
- Encourage students to decorate their People Shapes to represent themselves. Prompt them to think about the characteristics that make them unique—such as hair color, clothing or a certain expression—and incorporate those features into their design.
- Use a black marker to print students’ names on their People Shapes so that you can easily read them from across the room.
- Use a piece of yarn to divide a bulletin board in half. Label one side “I am here today!” and the other side “I am not here today!” Place strips of hook & loop tape on each side of the bulletin board. Then attach a piece of hook & loop tape to the back of each student’s People Shape. (You can also use magnetic tape to apply the People Shapes to your magnetic board.)
- Explain to students that you will place their People Shapes on the side marked “I am not here today!” When they arrive in the morning, it is their job to move their People Shapes to the side marked “I am here today!”
