Directions
- Provide each student with a cocoa mug template and a pair of scissors. Have students cut out the two mugs. The blank mug will be the front of the card. The mug with the poem will be the inside of the card. (You can precut the template for younger students.)
- Give students brown markers or crayons. Have them color in the oval on the blank mug so it looks like the mug is filled with hot cocoa.
- Give each student 3–5 small white pom-poms and glue. Encourage them to glue the pom-pom “marshmallows” to their hot cocoa! If desired, invite students to decorate their mug with valentine-themed craft materials.
- Help students punch holes in each mug’s handle. (The circles on the template show you where to punch the holes.) Have students place the blank mug on top of the mug with the poem. Show them how to align the holes. Then help them tie short lengths of string or yarn through the holes to complete their card.
- Have students open their card and sign their name on the blank line beneath the poem. Now their Valentine’s Day cards are ready for someone they love!
