Add a splash of springtime color to your bulletin board display with creative works of art that welcome in the new season! Hurry—the first day of spring is March 20!
This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 1st grade / 3 - 6 years
You will need:
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12"
- Puffy Pipe Stems (green)
- Mini-muffin paper cup liners
- Help-Yourself Glue Tubes
- Safety Scissors
Directions
- Provide each student with a sheet of construction paper and explain that they can choose to make a caterpillar or a flower scene.
-
To make the flower scene:
- Have students create flower stems by gluing three or four pipe stems onto the page. (Note: You can
instruct students to position the stems in a bunch so that their flowers will form a bouquet, or they can
create a garden of flowers by placing them vertically across the bottom of the page.) - Have them create flower blossoms by gluing the paper mini-muffin liners at the top of each stem.
- Invite them to add decorative touches to their flowers with markers, crayons or glitter!
-
To make the caterpillar scene:
- Have students arrange the mini-muffin paper cup liners in a squiggly line across the page and glue
the bottoms of the cups to the construction paper. - While the glue dries, have students create the caterpillars legs by cutting pipe stems
into short half-inch
lengths and adding two beneath each mini-muffin cup. - Invite students to add decorative touches to their caterpillars with markers, crayons or glitter!
- Attach the finished products onto a bulletin board display titled “Signs of Spring” or “Springtime Is Here!”
