This colorful, hands-on craft will add a splash of cheer to a rainy spring day!

This activity is appropriate for:
preschool - 1st grade / 3 - 6 years

You will need:

Before you begin:

  1. Have students select wrapping paper to use for their boots. (Note: We recommend providing colorful paper with various patterns, such as stripes, polka dots, chevrons, and other geometric designs.)
  2. Print and cut out the rain boots template and trace it onto each student’s wrapping paper.
  3. Cover a table with butcher paper or old newspaper to prepare a station where students can finger paint.
  4. Pour a small amount of blue or turquoise fingerpaint onto several paper plates and place the plates at the painting station for students to use.

Directions

  1. Invite a few students at a time to the painting station and give each a sheet of white posterboard.
  2. Encourage students to dip their fingers in the paint and dab it onto the bottom half of their posterboard to create a “puddle.”
  3. As the paint dries, have students cut out the rain boots from their chosen wrapping paper.
  4. Prompt students to glue the boots onto the posterboard to make it look like the boots are “splashing” in the puddle.
  5. Give each student a copy of the poem “Spring Splash” to glue onto the top of the posterboard.
