Holiday Storytime

Children of all ages enjoy listening as you read stories aloud. Select a few stories that will introduce children to holidays as they are celebrated in a variety of different cultures. If you need help selecting stories, our Celebrating Holidays Paperback Library contains books on Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. You can also visit your library to find a variety of books that emphasize diversity and capture the joys of the season and the spirit of giving during the holidays. Some suggestions include: Too Many Toys by David Shannon, Christmas Tapestry by Patricia Polacco, The Borrowed Hanukkah Latkes by Linda Glaser, and The Gifts of Kwanzaa by Synthia Saint James. After reading, take out some chart paper and invite students to help you make a list of facts about each holiday. Then create a Venn diagram to illustrate the similarities and differences between the holidays. |
