Turkey Place Card Holders |
Personalize your Thanksgiving setting with these homemade turkey table toppers!
This activity is appropriate for:
Preschool - 2nd grade / 3 - 7 years
You will need:
- Pine cones
- Wiggly Eyes
- Pom-Poms (brown)
- Construction Paper - 9" x 12" (yellow and red)
- Pipe Stems (red, yellow and orange)
- Help-Yourself Glue Tubes
- Best-Buy Broad-Tip Markers
- Safety Scissors
- Index cards
- Marker
Directions
- For each place card holder, give your child two pipe stems of each color (red, yellow and orange). Instruct her to loop the pipe stems in half and twist the ends of each pipe stem together to make six separate “feathers” for the project.
- Have your child glue the pipe stem feathers in a row near the base of a pine cone—alternating colors to make a pattern.
- Next, help your child cut a small triangle shape from yellow construction paper to use as the beak and a red squiggly shape to use as the turkey’s snood that hangs over the beak.
- Then, for each place card holder, have your child glue two wiggly eyes, one beak, and one snood onto a pom-pom ball. Then, glue the pom-pom ball to the narrow end of the pine cone to create the turkey’s head.
- Finally, trim index cards to 2" x 3" and have your child use a marker to write the name of each guest on a card.
- Slip the place cards into the pine cone between the row of “feathers” and the head of the turkey, and set your completed place card holders on your Thanksgiving table to indicate where you would like your guests to be seated!
