Turkey Handprint Apron |
Young children will love making these handprint turkey aprons to wear while helping you out in the kitchen on Thanksgiving Day!
This activity is appropriate for:
Preschool - 2nd grade / 3 - 7 years
You will need:
- Plain white or off-white apron (can be found at a craft or hobby supply store)
- Washable Fingerpaint - Six-Pack
- Lakeshore Heavy-Duty Brushes
- Old newspaper
- Markers (black and orange)
Directions
- Spread out some old newspaper on top of your workspace. Then lay the apron out flat on top of the newspaper.
- Use the brushes to paint a thick layer of fingerpaint onto your child’s palm and fingers. Use a different bright color for each finger and paint the palm and thumb brown. (The fingers will make the colored turkey feathers and the palm and thumb will form the turkey’s body and head.)
- Help your child press his painted hand firmly onto the surface of the apron to make a turkey handprint!
- Reapply paint to the hand, and then help your child make another turkey handprint on the apron. Encourage your child to make as many turkey handprints as he desires to decorate the apron. Use markers to add details, such as eyes, beaks and legs.
- Allow the paint to dry. Then, invite your child to put on his apron and help you prepare a delicious Thanksgiving dinner!
